Directing as an MFA CandidateDuring my time in the graduate program at Minnesota State University I directed three fully mounted productions. In February, 2014, I staged Steven Dietz's Trust and in November, 2014, I staged Gabriel, by Moira Buffini. During the final year, I staged Time Stands Still, by Donald Margulies. In addition, I wrote a new children's musical, Zeusical at Olympus, which performed in the winter of 2016 for the MNSU Kiddie Tour program. The video linked at left provides a few excerpts and images from those productions.

Alternative Theories of TheatreMy work has included some exploration of alternative approaches to acting and performance. In particular, I have found that the concepts developed in the Indian Natyasastra can be useful. In this document, the Indian philosophical system of the Rasa provides a vocabulary for exploring the emotional load in performance. This system articulates eight foundational emotional states and considers the interaction which takes place between performer and audience in relation to emotional states. I have utilized and adapted a variety of exercises that were developed in workshops by Richard Schechner in the late twentieth century. This work helps actors to consider emotions more directly while working to express them genuinely.
